Ebselen derivative 1 (Compound 19) is an orally active glutathione peroxidase (GPx) mimetic. Ebselen derivative 1 has a significant protective effect against cisplatin-induced hair cell (HC) damage in vitro and in vivo, and can effectively reduce oxidative stress, apoptosis and ferroptosis of hair cells. Ebselen derivative 1 can be used for the study of cisplatin-induced hearing loss.

Biological Activity

ln Vitro Ebselen derivative 1 (Compound 19) (100 μM) significantly reduced cisplatin-induced apoptosis and ferroptosis in hair cells and alleviated the surge in oxidative stress triggered by cisplatin in the entire cochlea [1].
ln Vivo Ebselen derivative 1 (Compound 19) (80 mg/kg; oral; once a day for one week) has a hearing-protective effect in C57BL/6 mice and can alleviate cisplatin (5 mg/kg; intraperitoneal injection; once on the third and seventh days of Ebselen derivative 1 administration)-induced hair cell loss [1].

*Note: Please select an appropriate solvent for the preparation of stock solution based on your experiment needs. For most products, DMSO can be used for preparing stock solutions (e.g. 5 mM, 10 mM, or 20 mM concentration); some products with high aqueous solubility may be dissolved in water directly. Solubility information is available at the above Solubility Data section. Once the stock solution is prepared, aliquot it to routine usage volumes and store at -20°C or -80°C. Avoid repeated freeze and thaw cycles.
