Bioactivity | Sulfisoxazole acetyl (N1-Acetylsulfisoxazole), a Sulfisoxazole derivative, is an orally active dihydropteroate synthase inhibitor. Sulfisoxazole acetyl has an antibacterial action[1]. |
Invitro | As with other sulfonamides, the antibacterial action of Sulfisoxazole acetyl (N1-Acetylsulfisoxazole) is attributable to inhibiting dihydropteroate synthase, a key enzyme in folate synthesis in bacteria. Sulfisoxazole acetyl is known to be transformed primarily to sulfisoxazole, partly to N4-acetyl sulfisoxazole (N4AS), and likely also to diacetyl sulfisoxazole (DAS) and other compounds[1]. |
