Bioactivity Valclavam is an antibiotic, which exhibits antibacterial and antifungal activities. Valclavam inhibits homoserine-O-succinyltransferase (EC 2.3.1.46), blocks the methionine synthesis, and thus inhibits Escherichia coli. Valclavam inhibits Saccharomyces cerevisiae through inhibition of RNA formation. Valclavam inhibits the movement and reproduction of nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.
