Bioactivity | Manninotrionate (potassium) is an antitumor compound with highly specific immunoreactivity for terminal α-D-Galp-(1----6)-α-D-Galp units. Manninotrionate (potassium) is able to form complexes with bovine serum albumin (BSA), and antisera to this compound-protein conjugate have been prepared in rabbits. Antisera to manninotrionate (potassium) showed the highest reactivity with the homologous manninotrionate-BSA antigen in quantitative precipitation and ligand inhibition studies, but also had extensive cross-reactivity with manninotrionate-ovalbumin complexes. Antisera to manninotrionate (potassium) showed weak precipitation reactions with bovine lung galactose polymers, guar gum, gum arabic, and larch arabinogalactose polymers. Antisera to manninotrionate (potassium) failed to agglutinate Eichrich ascites tumor cells containing cell surface glycoproteins with α-D-galactosyl termini[1]. |
