Bioactivity Chalcomycin is a macrolide antibiotic, which exhibits antimicrobial activities against gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Chalcomycin protects mice from infection with a variety of staphylococci and streptococc, without significant toxicity (LD50 >2500 mg/kg)[1].
