Bioactivity Betalamic acid is an important intermediate naturally occurring in plants of the order Centrospermae and is a decomposition product of the beet red pigment betanin. Its presence can be determined by its reaction with synthetic cyclodopa to form betanidin and with L-proline to form indicaxanthin[1].
