Bioactivity (S)-Alaproclate (hydrochloride) is a potent selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which is used as an antidepressant agent. (S)-Alaproclate (hydrochloride) also produces a potent block of N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor currents in hippocampal neurons (IC50=1.1 μM) with a potent blocker of K+ currents[1].
