Levofloxacin mesylate is an orally active antibiotic with inhibitory effects on both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Levofloxacin mesylate inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. Levofloxacin mesylate is useful in the study of chronic periodontitis, airway inflammation, and BK viremia. Levofloxacin mesylate has anti-orthopoxic activity.
