Description Anabasine ((S)-Anabasine) is an alkaloid extracted from tobacco. Anabasine is a full agonist of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) with insecticidal activity. Anabasine depolarizes TE671 cells endogenously expressing human myotypic nAChRs.
In vivo Anabasine significantly reverses the impairment at doses of 0.2 mg/kg (p<0.05) and 2 mg/kg (p<0.025). When administered alone, Anabasine does not have any significant effects on response latency. Interestingly, the 0.06 mg/kg Anabasine dose exacerbates the dizocilpine-induced impairment, showing a significant increase in non-response trials (p<0.05) compared with dizocilpine alone. It's important to note that none of the Anabasine doses affect choice accuracy on their own[2].
