Bioactivity Spirapril (SCH 33844) hydrochloride is a potent angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor with antihypertensive activity. Spirapril competitively binds to ACE and prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II. Spirapril is an orally active prodrug of Spiraprilat and can be used for the research of hypertension, congestive heart failure[1].
Target IC50: angiotensin converting enzyme
In Vivo Spirapril (feeding needle; 10 mg/kg; 3 weeks) decreases alcohol intake in TGM123 mice and dose not reduce the alcohol consumption in TLM mice. Spirapril shows a 40.2% reduction in ACE activity in brain membrane from treated-mice. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and suppresses the transgene effect in the experiments.[2] Animal Model:
