Bioactivity Propidium monoazide is a photoreactive DNA-binding dye that preferentially binds to dsDNA. Propidium monoazide (PMA) prevents DNA from dead bacteria from being amplified during the PCR. PMA-PCR enhanced both the specificity and the sensitivity of PCR[1].
