Literature References: Saponaria officinalis L., Caryophyllaceae; herbaceous perennial plant having sharp-pointed leaves and large pale pink flowers. Habit. Europe to Middle Asia; naturalized in U.S. Constit. Saponins, saponarin, saporins, q.q.v. Produces soapy lather when bruised and agitated with water.
