Properties: White, cryst powder. One gram dissolves in 3 ml water, 13 ml alcohol, 10 ml boiling alcohol. Soly in water is increased by sodium benzoate. The aq soln is slightly alkaline to litmus; pH ~8.

Use: Has been used as a lubricant for compressing tablets.
