Literature References: Extract prepd from heartwood of Acacia catechu Willd., Leguminosae. Habit. India, Hindustan, Ceylon; naturalized in Jamaica. Constit. 25-35% catechutannic acid, 2-10% catechin; catechu red, quercetin, gum.

Properties: Incompat. Iron compds, gelatin, lime water, zinc sulfate.

Use: Tanning, dyeing fabrics brown and black; staining wood; in toilet preparations.

Therap-Cat: Astringent (diarrheal).

Therap-Cat-Vet: Has been used as intestinal astringent.
