Description | Pre-S2 (1-26) also called Pre-S (120-145), comprises the N-terminal portion of a 55-residue sequence encoded by the pre-S2 region of hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA. It represents an immunodominant epitope, and the immunogenicity can be enhanced by covalently linking the peptide to liposomes. Antibodies elicited against this determinant recognize envelope epitopes common to several subtypes of HBV and HBsAg particles. Because these antibodies show virusneutralizing activity in vivo, pre-S (120-145) has the potential as a synthetic vaccine against HBV infection. |
